Empowering parents to improve rural schooling in Mexico
The School Improvement program awards grants to parents’ associations in underserved rural communities in Mexico. The program aims to create a space for ongoing collaboration between parents and teachers in the communities. This program provides grants for uniforms, textbooks, and small school improvements in rural areas where the needs exceed the resources provided by the government.
Activities
Our program is implemented in schools through direct collaboration with parent's associations. Investing in Education supports parents’ associations in order to promote their participation in school management and ultimately to improve the quality of education their children receive.
Evaluation
Two researchers, Paul Gertler, of the University of California at Berkeley, and Harry Patrinos, of the World Bank, will evaluate the effectiveness of the project.
Long-term impact
Investing in Education seeks to expand the School Improvement project in collaboration with local communities and the Ministry of Education, so that parents’ associations and children across Mexico benefit from a better quality of education.
